What the Wall Molding Calculator actually calculates
Horizontal length is wall width times run count, and vertical length is piece count times piece height. Their sum receives the waste percentage. The engine does not calculate panel spacing, subtract openings, or design joints and returns; those details must be included in your measured runs.
The calculation path
Entered horizontal runs and vertical pieces are added before waste; spacing and openings must be resolved in your sketch.
Inputs that can change the answer
- Wall width: Enter wall width in m.
- Horizontal runs: Enter horizontal runs as a number; use the definition in the calculation method.
- Vertical pieces: Enter vertical pieces as a number; use the definition in the calculation method.
- Vertical piece height: Enter vertical piece height in m.
- Waste: Percentage applied at the stage shown in the method; enter 10 for ten percent.
Checks that stay outside the formula
Sketch every joint and return before buying lengths to reduce offcuts.
A practical order for entering the data
- Enter the width of the wall and count the full-width horizontal molding runs.
- Count the vertical pieces and enter their common cut height.
- Set a waste percentage and compare total order length with a cut list for the available molding stock.

Engine check using the prefilled sample
Worked example: wall width = 4.5 m, horizontal runs = 2, vertical pieces = 6, vertical piece height = 1 m and waste = 10 %. Replace the sample wall and item dimensions with the exact section and product format involved in your layout.
