What the Room Color Planner actually calculates
Each input controls one part of a fixed palette: mood selects the dominant color, daylight selects the supporting neutral, and size selects the accent. Medium and large rooms share an accent, while south-facing and very bright rooms share a neutral. The tool does not simulate illumination or measure perceived room size.
The calculation path
The planner combines light temperature, perceived room scale, and mood psychology to produce a dominant, supporting, and accent choice.
Inputs that can change the answer
- Natural light: Select the applicable natural light from the listed choices.
- Room size: Select the room-size category used to choose the accent colour; it does not measure or resize the room.
- Desired mood: Select the applicable desired mood from the listed choices.
Checks that stay outside the formula
Place large color swatches on more than one wall before deciding.
A practical order for entering the data
- Select the daylight description that best represents the room.
- Choose the room size category and the mood you want.
- Test the suggested dominant, supporting, and accent colors beside existing flooring and furniture.

Paint and colour example: natural light = Cool / north-facing, room size = Medium and desired mood = Calm. Use these numbers to follow the calculation, then substitute the dimensions, coverage, coats, or preferences that match your room.
